Christians Avoid A Truer God

A bit over a year ago, I was joined by the local brethren in a weekly gathering at a local coffee shop. We called it "our Scripture study" so we could identify what type of activity we were engaged in when the curious locals paused to visit.
"Oh, this is our little Scripture study... not a bible study. Most bibles are... inaccurate... poorly translated... inconsistent...". We each and all shared perspectives on why our little gathering was special. "Feel free to join us." "Here. Take this book. This is what we are doing our study with."
They looked at the cover and read the title. A Truer God. The title was enticing. We had a number of the college students (and a few other young adults) join us for the first week and then they had other things they had to do... like drink coffee... nap... attend their own newly discovered bible study.
WHAT HAPPENED?
They read the first chapter. It is real and it true. It is sharp.
In a time of tender feelings and extravagant social sensitivity... we handed our unbelieving friends a brutal, exposure against their preferred brand of religious distraction. They did not condemn us. They CERTAINLY gathered together privately and agreed to steer clear of our "strange teachings that slandered their church" even if what we shared was lifting up God. It was a confirmation of a belief I had long suspected to be true... Christians do not love God as much as they love their church. They will sacrifice God and His character to protect their church and its teaching... no matter how their teachers slander God. The hypocrisy.
The religious leaders of the Israelite state proclaimed, "It was better for one man to die than that the nation should perish." Mirroring the first century religious hypocrites, modern Christians, by their acts and loyalty to an organization declare, "It is better that the character and purpose of God be derided and scoffed at than that one doctrine or belief of our church should be examined." If it were not for civility and social expectations... well, I have spoken to some who WOULD have done harm if the culture allowed it.
ANYWAY...
In the next post... I want to share the first chapter of ROBERT BOWIE JOHNSON Jr.'s book. I am a bit embarrassed to say I had a copy of this book as well as a PDF for a rather long time but didn't make an effort to read it until the study. I cheated myself. I don't agree with everything he has written but who cares what I think. (one silly point) He is sound, reasoned, and I can see why he says what He says from the Scriptures.
The next post is a tease. Read that post. Buy a copy or two of the book. Send an invite to people you love enough to keep for the eons (which also means you might lose them during this current wicked eon). ATruerGod.com or go to SolvingLight.com. There is also Amazon.
It is a bit late for me to consume coffee but that is what I will usually do when I am finished with a post.
